Caps have a bulged top if they went bad. They won't get hot. In the worst case they leak ed the acid and it looks like salt built up. Why trying to fix that stuff? It's cheaper and more reliable to get a used one for cheap on eBay. Comes in orig. PM for pricing. All gone for now. Just wondering if I'll replace with a used one do I beed to recode on the car or will work without?

Sometimes the car will switch back to the normal lights; other times the backup lights will continue to be used for any further journeys made that day.
W211 Rear SAM module -how to repair it?
I have an Avantgarde model, so the lights in question that go out are LED lamps, though the backup lights use conventional bulbs. I have crossed in red out two of the boxes in the diagram as the legend would indicate that these connections are specific to saloons, whereas I have an estate. My question relates to what I believe to be the connector between the rear signal actuation module SAM and the wire that goes to the main rear light clusters that I am interested in the yellow box.
I've looked the the explanatory documentation in WIS, but I've not found anything relating to the depiction of connectors on diagrams. Questions: What does the number '14' represent? Is it a connector that plugs into the SAM? Do the numbers next to these terms refer to the terminal number within a connector plug? If so, will WIS contain a diagram of that plug that I can view?
Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W211; 2003-2009) fuses and relays
I should add that I only started using WIS yesterday, so I may not be using it effectively, for which I apologise, though I would be grateful for any guidance. I have tried consulting the documentation on reading wiring diagrams that is available in WIS and attachedthough to no avail.
I've also included pictures below of the fault messages on the MFD. They are shown in the order in which they appear on the display. Would they suggest that it is the offside rear light the one that flashes every 3 seconds or so when the backup lamps come on that is the problem, rather than the near-side one that just remains off when the backup lamps are on? If anyone can give me any info on this that would be much appreciated.
There is no hardware fault. This is basically what codecard are selling. This situation is true of a lot of modules in Mercedes and other makes.
Imagine having to buy a new PC every time windows crashes. In some cases the boot sector is corrupt so there is no way to flash serially but sometimes it is possible. When the boot sector is damaged the only way is on the bench with a programmer. A collection of virgin dumps and the knowledge of how to manipulate existing ones is all that is required. Some modern automotive technicians have a range of eeprom programmers, hot air stations etc in their arsenal of tools.
This allows tuned in independents to be far more efficient cheaper than dealers as the dealers will never do this level of work. In reality Mercedes should solve this problem themselves. Instead, the early SAMs likeis a headache.
When you open the cover - surprise - you find the opposite side of electronic parts phso processor is underneath, and you have to dismalt all the SAM, and desolder the whole base to reach the chip.
But don't worry, just do a cut 19x5cm in the plastic base where the label is phwith care. Remove plastic clips, and take out boot's rear plastic protector, in order to remove the half left side vertical carpet.
Now the SAM is in clear view. Undo the bolt in the top and lying down the SAM in front of it, by turning it, now get it out of its base, and you are ready to unplug connectors. Note which one goes where, and remove it.
Put all connectors in polybags to keep it clear ph It is in your choice. If you decide to do it by yourself and select the desoldering method as in photos ha-ha! You must leave it approx. The copper one phdoes not work at all, too little thermal amount. Notice, the around the chip solder phbefore the heated bronze insertion phwhich after melting, equalise thermal amount around the chip and make desoldering, easier and safer.
Cross your fingers and start the engine, if you did it the right way, everything will work fine. Mine did!!! They know exactly what they sale!.
